Since the discovery of unique charge density wave (CDW) behavior in materials, scientists have continuously researched materials with related properties. This study combines the cutting-edge femtosecond laser experimental techniques of Professor Chih-Wei Luo at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University with our department’s strength in first-principles calculations. We demonstrate that charge density waves exhibit different phases in the semimetallic system CuTe.

At low temperatures, a new periodicity is induced in a third direction, in addition to the original ‘a’ direction. Furthermore, the CDW structure obtained through theoretical calculations corroborates the measured charge density information.
